Big Day Out 2008 has come and gone, and with the dust now settled, reflect on events with Ben's BIG Big Day Out review.... With a weak line up this year IMO, the main act I was looking forward to was RATM, with a few others to check out as well. Andrew's put together a fantastic team of staff to ensure that the sold out crowd gets a range of great summer drinks. 28/10 SA Venues go smoke free
This Thursday November 1 sees smoking banned in all South Australian enclosed pubs, clubs and bars. For non-smokers it means not coming home with your clothes smelling like an ash tray, and for smokers a new found respect for beer gardens. Many venues are prepared for the changes with a cement truck of beer gardens and outdoor areas going up in the last year to accommodate smokers. Other venues on the other hand are stuck in a tight spot with no outdoor areas, especially if they are not on the ground floor. It will be interesting to see how the new laws change the dynamic at different venues, and how crowd numbers will be effected. One things for sure, non-smokers will be breathing a little bit easier!

And if you are a glutton for punishment you can have a crack at one of their huge schnitzels, 1.2kg rump steaks or 30cm burgers. 16/04 Pubscene Traveller - In Poland even the pubs are drunk
This modern architectural marvel is known as the 'Crooked House' and can be found in the town of Sopat, Poland. Built in 2004, it is the most photographed building in Poland, housing a pub among other things. There are 2 questions that need answering here: 1. What substances was architect Szotynscy Zaleski on when he designed it, and 2. Does the house actually look straight to people after a few too many vodkas? Either way it's certainly an impressive structure! With all the talk of modernising Adelaide, are we ready for such a unique building?

15/04 Pub Crawl Generator RELOADED!
Our patented pub crawl generator has proved highly popular among the good party people of Adelaide, with routes being generated for bucks nights to uni crawls to birthdays and everything in between. The generator allows intelligent creation of routes on google maps based on distance between venues and available happy hours. We have now beefed up the generator from the previous max of 5, to 10 venues per crawl, providing the most hard-core crawler ample venues to stumble to. You can generate your routes to be printed and shared, or if you are a pubscene member, save the routes to display on the website, send to friends and modify down the track! Here's a sample route using our new juiced up generator. Go forth and crawl!

Local lads the Hilltop Hoods are continuing their innovations by releasing a 're-strung' version of their popular 'The Hard Road' album featuring the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Artists in different genres have successfully teamed with orchestra's such as Ben Folds and Metallica, so will be interesting to see the experiment layed to Hip Hop. The boys are holding a unique one-off performance with a 31 piece ASO, held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Sat May 12 to coincide with the release of the album. At under $50 and the Hoods only Adelaide gig in '07, this is one performance definitely worth checking out. But if you do miss out, no doubt you'll be able to buy the DVD later this year! Tickets are on sale now at Ticketek.

Tomorrow night (Thursday) they are at it again, with a free pint direct from the brewery for everyone at various venues across Adelaide. Read on for the times and locations. Cheers! more...

04/04 Easter Venue Trading Hours
Easter is a great time to head out with friends and have a 'quiet drink or 2'. But when are all the pubs, clubs & bars actually open over Easter? Well, Good Friday is a no go zone, so everything is closed all day. As a general rule, most venues close at midnight on Thursday night, although some are running extended hours for a little later. If you can't survive without partying on Friday, clubs can open at midnight Friday night, so you can throw on your dancing shoes then. Saturday is as per normal and Sunday night should be a big one with Monday being a public holiday and a number of venues holding special nights....Have an awesome Easter!....The pubscene Crew.

To Be Sure, To Be Sure......with that said, Saturday is St. Patrick's Day, everyone's favourite national celebration (excluding Australia Day of course). It's the perfect excuse to head down to your local and join in the festivities. The street party will be on again outside PJ O'Brien's on East Terrace from 9AM (yes that's not a misprint). 06/03 ‘Service by Descendents of Criminals’ - The rise of the Aussie themed pub
Here in Australia we are accustomed to a healthy selection of ‘authentic’ English and Irish pubs to choose from, but other countries are getting in on the act, of the ‘authentic’ Aussie pub. And some of these pubs are more Australian than Australia! To get a true sense of what constitutes a real Aussie pub, you have to head bush. There isn’t exactly an overpowering Aussie theme in our capital cities, except for maybe the local beers on tap, and local footy fans yelling at the big screen TVs. In fact, our pubs lack such a true Australian identity, we have our own Aussie themed pubs in Australia itself! more...
